ATHLETICO LOATH LOSING TORRES

Supposed United target Fernando Torres will not be leaving Atletico Madrid, according to club president Enrique Cerezo.

The Spanish international striker has been consistently linked with United in recent years, while Liverpool are also allegedly in the hunt for his signature.

However, Cerenzo told Television Espanola: "Everyone talks about rumours and figures, but no-one has been in touch. We always have the same problem with him.

"Every year, either at the start of the season, midway through the season or at the end, it is the same. Torres is an Atletico Madrid player and I think he is going to remain with the team for many years."

Atletico are confident that Torres, who pledged his future to the club last summer in order to end transfer speculation, remains happy at the club.

"He is an Atletico Madrid player, he is very well at Atletico Madrid, the fans want him and we want him," said Cerenzo. "Neither is he for sale nor do I think is going to leave."

ROONEY FEELING GREAT!

Wayne Rooney was almost lost for words on Sunday after collecting his first Premiership winner's medal.

United's ecstatic number eight told MUTV: "I'm delighted. It's what all the hard work this season has been for.

"There's no greater feeling out there. It's fantastic. It's brilliant but really hard to explain. I'm absolutely delighted, I can't put into words, it's unbelievable."

Rooney's enjoyment of winning the title was enhanced by the enormity of the task. Wayne had tried twice before to win the Premiership with United, losing out to Chelsea in both years, and the Reds also missed out in the term before he joined the club from Everton.

"It's a massive tournament for us to win," said Wayne.

"We've had 38 tough games so to come out on top of that league is great for us. Hopefully we won't have to wait for another four years to win it again."

Now Wayne is targeting another personal first - an FA Cup winner's medal, having been a runner-up with the Reds at the end of his debut season 2004/05.

"We can't go too far with our (title) celebrations," warned Wayne. "We have to make sure we're ready for the cup final on Saturday."

WE DESERVE CROWN!

United skipper Gary Neville says the Reds fully deserved to be crowned Premiership champions, but he urged his team-mates to now focus on lifting the FA Cup.

Neville lifted his seventh league trophy on Sunday - his first as captain - but urged the Reds to make it a “special” season by doing the double.

“There were times in the last three years where we felt really low,” he admitted on MUTV. “We probably weren’t consistent enough to win it, we didn’t deserve to be champions.

"But this year we deserve it. It’s a fantastic day for the club. It’s important to savour the moment, but we’ve got a huge game next week.

“We’ve had a great week, but the focus at United is to move on and we have to think about the cup final next week and make it a really special season.”

Neville, who has been suffering with an ankle injury and hasn’t played since 17 March, will start football training on Monday and, according to Sir Alex, “will be given every chance” of making the final. But his place is by no means assured. “I’ll be there,” he said. “I don’t know if I’ll be playing, but I hope I will.”

THE BOSS HAS SPOKEN!

Fergie: This Is A Special Team
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed his Premiership champions as they collected their ninth Premiership title - then challenged them to retain the trophy next season. "The players have deserved this triumph," said the United boss. "This is a special team and a special club. My experience of winning our first Premiership title in 1993 was that it opened so many doors for us. And my belief is these players, having had a taste of what has happened this season, will also come on like that team did. This side has shown they've got the nerve, now they have to push on from here. I'm looking forward to seeing this young team develop over the next few years. If it stays together, as I believe it will, it can go on to achieve great things."

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock saw his side relegated after a 2-1 defeat against Wigan and criticised Sir Alex for fielding a weakened team. Warnock said, "I was disappointed with Sir Alex. I thought he might have played Ronaldo and one or two more — but he sold me a dummy during the week.

The United boss defended his team selection, insisting: "We did our best and I don't think anyone can criticise us. I feel for Neil Warnock and Sheffield United, but when he sees how many chances we had - 25 - he'll see how unlucky we were not to win."

In transfer news, the Mirror claims United are on the trail of Dutch hot-shot Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Sir Alex has sent his brother Martin to watch tall 23-year-old targetman Huntelaar in Ajax's last two games. He would cost the champions around £12million.
Giuseppe Rossi wants to return to United next season and make his mark in the Premiership.

The striker, 20, has been a revelation on loan at Parma - a brace against Messina on Sunday took his tally to six goals in seven games - but he is adamant that his future lies in England despite his Serie A success.

"I want to come back to United not as the kid in the reserves who makes a step up, but as a player fully involved in the senior squad," Rossi exclusively told Inside United Magazine.

"United are my main priority. It's where I want to be and where I want to play."

Prior to his fruitful time at Parma, Rossi spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Newcastle, and feels he now has the experience to make the grade at Old Trafford.

"I needed to go out on loan to get more experience," he said. "But I want to be part of the United squad and become a first-team regular.

"You always want to be confident in your own ability. I am and I really hope I can make my mark next season because I want to stay at Old Trafford for as long as I can."
